Evelyn Skokna is a licensed social worker with a background in working with children and families in an array of settings including schools, after school programs, and residential treatment centers. Utilizing a systems approach with a client-centered empowerment model, Evelyn supports clients in navigating anxiety, self esteem issues, depression, adjustment/transitions and other mental health challenges through building coping mechanisms and strengthening clients’ support systems.
While working with Evelyn, clients will be introduced to a variety of methods that best fit their needs and preferred therapeutic style. Whether it is through the use of play therapy, cognitive behavioral techniques, or psychodynamic approaches, clients will collaborative with Evelyn towards their goals in a holistic way.
Prior to working at HTG, Evelyn worked for years in crisis intervention with survivors of sexual violence and other forms of violence and abuse. Evelyn obtained her Master of Social Work degree from Loyola University Chicago in 2016 and has since worked with children as young as 5 years old through individuals in early adulthood. Her philosophy is one that recognizes while supporting the individual’s own capacity for change and growth is necessary, we must also advocate for larger systemic changes to alleviate the burden of stress placed upon individuals. Evelyn is a culturally sensitive clinician who is experienced in working with clients of diverse backgrounds and communities.
